[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

I’m the “this guy” in the yellow jacket who provides “some order” by means of “voluntary traffic control duty” in the video. The KING5 reporters were nice and wanted to do an interview with me, but I said no to them because no one ever looks good on the local news even if they’re just trying to keep sledders from getting hit by cars. Anyway, they just got nat sound and some sweet shots of me doing a high-five spin move and then smooching my girlfriend at the end.

Stay warm and safe, Seattle!

Mount Rainier sunrise from Ingraham Flats

This is a timelapse taken on Friday, 02 September, 2011, from the Ingraham Flats on Mt. Rainier in Washington. Some friends and I attempted a summit of the mountain with International Mountain Guides, but we were unable to reach the top due to high winds.

When we returned to camp after our summit attempt, I set up my GoPro Hero camera to take pictures at five-second intervals. This video represents about two hours of footage of the sunrise over Little Tahoma taken while we rested and prepared for our descent back to Paradise. Toward the end of the video, you might be able to see that the composition of the shot changes. This is due to the sun melting the snow on which the camera was resting.

The people who appear in the video facing away from the camera while standing just to the left of Little Tahoma are peeing.

Sweet profile of the Service Board on ESPN.
The Service Board, changing the lives of kids one snowboard run at a time
Snowboarding has always been more than a sport. It’s a community where people look out for each other. Those of us in it share bonds that people outside have a hard time comprehending, and most of us have developed a true respect for nature because we depend so much on it. Through snowboarding, we gain trust in ourselves and build confidence through progression. The Service Board realizes this and so snowboarding has played a critical role in their mentoring program since day one.
“Youth figure out quickly that snowboarding is not easy and in order to progress they have to fall,” states the Service Board’s Executive Director, Ashley Miller. “Perseverance is central to the snowboarding experience, and is something that they can draw on throughout their lives in countless other situations.”

Pai makes delicious food and does good work for the community. Seattle folks should check out his new food truck.

Street Food Update: New Food Trucks Abound

Meanwhile we received a note from a tipster about yet another new food truck that’s out on the streets as of this week. It’s called Pai’s and serves $7 meat-side-and-rice plate lunch. The menu includes Hawaiian, Korean and Thai-influenced items like kalbi short ribs, sliders and pulled pork, and a host of sides like kimchi and papaya salad.
Pai’s started appearing around town this week and is the brainchild of Pai Pongsupaht, born in Thailand, raised in Hawaii and now spreading the joys of plate lunch throughout Seattle. A veteran of Serafina and Ohana, Pongsupaht also founded a food and nutrition program at The Service Board, a Seattle-based youth program that combines mentoring, community service and snowboarding.
